Dr. Tabatadze elected president of Columbia Chapter of Health Physics Society

George Tabatadze has become a president-elect of the Columbia Chapter of the Health Physics Society (CCHPS). He began his three-year term in July 2017 and will serve one-year terms as president-elect, president, and past president between 2017 – 2019, respectively. The Columbia Chapter of the Health Physics Society (established in 1960) is a professional organization whose members are specialists in radiation safety. The CCHPS mission is to support its members in the practice of their profession and to promote excellence in the science and practice of radiation safety.

Lecture for Internal & Environmental Dosimetry Class

In March, Maia Avtandilashvili provided a 2-hour lecture to students in WSU’s Internal and Environmental Dosimetry class (ENVR_SCI 523). Dr. Avtandilashvili introduced students to the Integrated Modules for Bioassay Analysis (IMBA) internal dosimetry software, and gave examples of how IMBA can be used as a tool to estimate radionuclide intakes from bioassay data such as urinalysis or in-vivo body count results.

Lecture and Lab Class for Radiation Instrumentation Students

In December 2015, Dr. George Tabatadze provided a 2-hour lecture and 3-hour laboratory practice to students in the Radiation Instrumentation class (ENVR_SCI 520). The class was offered by the Department of Environmental Sciences as part of WSU Tri-Cities’ Graduate Certificate Program in Radiation Protection. The topic of the lecture was solid-state charged particle detectors.

Tolmachev on Japan Journal of Health Physics editorial board

USTUR director, Dr. Sergei Tolmachev,  has been reappointed to serve on the editorial board for the Japanese Journal of Health Physics (JJHP) from August 2015 to July 2017.  He worked in Japan at the Japanese Atomic Energy Research Institute (JAERI), Tokai-mura and the National Institute of Radiological Sciences (NIRS), Chiba before joining the College of Pharmacy faculty in January 2007. Dr. Tolmachev has served on the JJHP editorial board since November 2009.

Dr. Tabatadze serves on HPS International Collaboration Committee

FS_TabatadzeGeorge Tabatadze has been appointed as a member of the International Collaboration Committee (ICC) of the Health Physics Society (HPS). He will begin his three-year term starting July 2015. Dr. Tabatadze previously served as an advisor for the committee in 2014. He has actively participated in planning the special session for the 2015 HPS annual meeting in Indianapolis, IN, including arrangements for the special speaker visit from the Georgian chapter of the Health Physics Society (Georgian Health Physics Association – GHPA). He also played a key role in nominating the GHPA president-elect for the 2015 HPS G. William Morgan lectureship.

USTUR director appointed to editorial board of Japanese Journal of Health Physics

USTUR director, Dr. Sergei Tolmachev, was appointed to serve a 2nd term on the Editorial Board for the Japanese Journal of Health Physics (JJHP). He worked in Japan at the Japanese Atomic Energy Research Institute (JAERI), Tokai-mura and the National Institute of Radiological Sciences (NIRS), Chiba before joining the College of Pharmacy faculty in January 2007. Dr. Tolmachev has served on the JJHP editorial board since November 2009.
