USTUR faculty have participated in several scientific meetings during recent months including the Radiobioassay and Radiochemical Measurements Conference, a EURADOS plenary meeting, a Radiation Research Society meeting, and a Health Physics Society meeting.

Radiobioassay and Radiochemical Measurements Conference

Sergei Tolmachev and George Tabatadze attended the Radiobioassay and Radiochemical Measurements Conference in Knoxville, TN on October 27-31, 2014. This opportunity provided a valuable opportunity to network with other scientists in the field.

European Radiation Dosimetry Group

Sergei Tolmachev and Stacey McComish are active participants in a task group that is reviewing journal articles on the biodosimetry of internally deposited radionuclides. This work is conducted as a part of a joint effort between Working Group 7 (internal dosimetry) and Working Group 10 (retrospective dosimetry) of the European Radiation Dosimetry Group (EURADOS). Dr. Tolmachev and Ms. McComish attended the EURADOS plenary meeting in Warsaw, Poland on October 1-2, 2014.

Radiation Research Society Meeting

Sergei Tolmachev was invited to speak during the “Radiation Archives” session at the 2014 Radiation Research Society Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, NV on September 21-24, 2014. His presentation focused on samples available at NHRTR from both USTUR donations as well as collections such as tissues from the terminated Radium Worker study at Argonne National Laboratory.

Annual Health Physics Society Meeting

Sergei Tolmachev and Maia Avtandilashvili attended the 59th Annual Health Physics Society Meeting in Baltimore, MD on July 13-17, 2014. Dr. Avtandilashvili presented a case study of a worker who was exposed to plutonium as a result of a wound. She tested the NCRP wound model by modeling the worker’s urinary excretion and organ retention using the Integrated Modules for Bioassay Analysis (IMBA) Professional Plus software.
