Commendation from DOE Associate Under Secretary

At the beginning of our 2018 Scientific Advisory Committee meeting, the USTUR’s project manager, Joey Zhou, presented a letter of commendation from the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Matthew Moury to USTUR director, Sergei Tolmachev. Mr. Moury – DOE’s Associate Under Secretary for Environment, Health, Safety and Security – observes that the USTUR is the longest-running domestic radiation health study in the United States, highlights recent research, thanks the USTUR team for its dedication to the program, and expresses a deep sense of gratitude for Registrants and their families.

DOE AU-1 acting under secretary visits

On August 25th, DOE’s Acting Associate Under Secretary for Environment, Health, Safety, and Security – Matthew Moury – visited the USTUR. The visit started at the office, where Dr. Tolmachev provided an overview of USTUR research, history, and vision for the future. Following his office visit, Mr. Moury visited the USTUR laboratory where he viewed the autopsy facility, and Dr. Tolmachev presented a step-by-step description of radiochemical tissue analysis: from a frozen sample to an α-spectrometric counting source. Specifics of actinide α-spectrometric measurements were explained by Dr. George Tabatadze.

DOE AU-10 director visits USTUR, tours lab

On March 24, 2015, Patricia Worthington, director of DOE Office of Health and Safety (AU-10), Isaf Al-Nabulsi (RERF Program Manager, DOE/AU-10), and Joey Zhou (USTUR Program Manager, DOE/AU-13) visited the USTUR.
