Guidance from the SAC

2013 Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting

 

Each year, the SAC provides feedback for the USTUR’s faculty and staff. This feedback comes in the form of general comments on the work that the USTUR is conducting, and recommendations as to what the USTUR should focus on in the coming year.

Comments

  1. Big improvement in Registrant communications.
  2. Good progress in analysis and database population.
  3. Great response to and implementation of previous recommendations.
  4. Good research collaborations.
  5. Great science on UF6 and Pu(NO3)4.
  6. Excellent presentations duriing the meeting.
  7. High quality and productive staff – a great team.
  8. Good prioritizing of radiochemical analyses.
  9. Better awareness of donor/family perspective.
  10. Continued efforts at student involvement.

Recommendations

  1. Consider ways to increase laboratory analysis throughput and establish higher goals, preferably >400 sample analyses per year.
  2. Search for and retrieve available records from Rocky Flats to reconstitute the Registrant list from the 1980s.
  3. Set goals for health physics database population.
  4. Look at feasibility of obtaining work histories, including jobs held prior to employment at a nuclear facility.
  5. Complete Data Quality Objective (DQO) documentation.
  6. Continue and expand student involvement.
  7. Prioritize travel to promote the USTUR.
  8. Investigate other avenues for former worker communication and recruitment.
